Why Clima Difusión
We are a family business devoted to climate control and fireplaces. We advise you from choosing the equipment right through to its maintenance.
Family business with more than 30 years of experience
We install your air conditioning, service it and repair it if it fails, so you do not have to look for another technician when the first fault appears.
A complete service for homes and businesses
For one bedroom, the living room or the whole house: we choose the system based on the rooms, the false ceiling available and the work you are willing to do.
Split, multi-split, ducted, fan coil, Solar Split and portable
Shops, offices and industry need more complex systems and serious maintenance. We help you cut running costs and keep the equipment performing.
Cassette, VRV, rooftop units and water chillers
Very competitive maintenance contracts so the system works properly and lasts longer, without waiting for it to break down before calling someone.
Also for electrical, water, gas and heating installations
As well as air conditioning, we design and install fireplaces. If you are renovating the living room, we coordinate both installations from the start.
Gas, wood-burning, pellet and bioethanol fireplaces
How it works
An air conditioner does not make cold: it moves heat. A split system has two parts joined by copper pipes, the refrigerant lines: the indoor unit, which goes in the room, and the outdoor unit, which goes on the façade, in the courtyard or on the roof. A refrigerant gas circulates inside and, in cooling mode, absorbs heat from the room air and releases it outside.
Inverter technology controls the compressor speed. Instead of starting and stopping at full power, it adjusts its pace to what the room needs, so the temperature is steadier and energy use is lower than with a fixed-speed unit.
Most current units are heat pumps: in winter they reverse the cycle, taking heat from the outside air and bringing it indoors. That is why the same unit also works as heating for much of the year.
As it cools, the air loses moisture. That water, the condensate, collects in a tray and leaves through a drain that has to be planned when the system is installed.
For the home
In a home, the choice depends on how many rooms you want to cool, whether there is a false ceiling and how much building work you are prepared to do. These are the systems we install in flats and houses.
One indoor unit on the wall and one outdoor unit. It is the most direct way to cool a single room, such as the living room or the main bedroom.
It is quick to install and needs very little work: one hole through the wall for the refrigerant lines and the drain.
A single outdoor unit serves several indoor units, one per room, and each one is controlled separately.
It suits flats where there is no room to hang several machines on the façade or in the courtyard.
A machine hidden in the false ceiling sends air through ducts to grilles in each room. No unit is visible and the temperature is even throughout the house.
It needs a false ceiling, or one has to be built, and it works with Airzone to control each zone separately.
It works water-to-air: a fan blows air across a heat exchanger through which hot or cold water flows.
It is an efficient option in homes that already have a gas boiler or a water circuit that can be used.
Split units designed to run on solar energy, which reduce the electricity they draw from the grid.
Designed for anyone who wants to cool their home for less and reduce their carbon footprint. They pair well with a solar panel installation.
No building work or fixed installation: you plug it in and it vents hot air through a hose towards the window.
It works as a temporary solution or in a rented flat, but it has less power and is noisier than a fixed unit.
| Feature | Split (1x1) | Multi-split | Ducted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rooms it cools | One | Several, each with its own unit | The whole home, by zones |
| Outdoor units | One per split | One for all the indoor units | One |
| Building work | Minimal: a hole through the wall and a drain | Refrigerant lines to each room | False ceiling, ducts and grilles |
| What you see in the room | The unit on the wall | One unit in each room | Only the grilles |
| Room-by-room control | Its own remote | Each unit separately | With Airzone zoning |
| Best suited to | A living room or a bedroom | Flats with no room for several machines outside | Full renovations and new builds |
| Maintenance | Unit filters and a pre-season service | Filters of each indoor unit | Machine filters and the state of the grilles |
Tell us what you want to cool, whether it is one bedroom, the whole flat or a shop, and we will suggest the system that fits best, with a no-obligation quote.

Ducted systems
Ducted air conditioning is the most discreet option. The indoor machine is hidden in the false ceiling, usually in the hallway or a bathroom, and the air reaches each room through ducts that end in supply grilles. A return grille collects the air and sends it back to the machine.
Installing ducted air conditioning makes most sense in a full renovation or a new build, when the ceiling is going to be lowered anyway. It can also be done in a finished flat, but first you need to check the available height and where the ducts can run.
| Point | What we look at |
|---|---|
| False ceiling | Clear height for the machine and the ducts, or whether a new one is needed |
| Where the machine goes | Usually the hallway or a bathroom, with an access hatch for maintenance |
| Grilles | One supply grille per room and a well-placed return |
| Outdoor unit | Where it goes and the route of the refrigerant lines to the machine |
| Zoning | Whether each room will have its own thermostat with Airzone |
Without zoning, a ducted system cools the whole house equally. With Airzone, each grille has a motorised damper and each room has its own thermostat.
So you can cool the living room in the afternoon and the bedrooms at night, without spending energy on empty rooms.
It pays off when you want to cool several rooms without visible units, there is or will be a false ceiling and you want an even temperature throughout the home.
If you only need the living room and one bedroom, a multi-split is usually simpler and needs less work. We assess it during the visit.
For businesses
In shops, offices and industry, systems are more complex and maintenance matters more. These are the solutions we work with, depending on the type of space.

It is fitted in the false ceiling and spreads the air evenly through the whole space, without taking up wall space. It is the most common system in shops, restaurants and open-plan offices.
A variable refrigerant volume system connects many indoor units to one or more outdoor units, with central control. It optimises energy use in offices, hotels and buildings with zones used in different ways.
A compact unit installed on the roof that conditions large volumes, such as warehouses, storage buildings or sports halls. It does not allow zoning, but it gives an even temperature in open-plan spaces.
They produce chilled water that is distributed to fan coils or air handling units. They are an advanced option for companies with spaces of high humidity or extreme temperatures, where steady performance is needed.
| Feature | Cassette | VRV | Rooftop unit | Water chiller |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Where the unit goes | In the false ceiling of the room | Indoor units in each zone and outdoor units on the roof or in a courtyard | On the roof of the building | Outdoors or in a plant room |
| Typical space | Shops, restaurants and offices | Offices, hotels and buildings | Warehouses, storage buildings and sports halls | Industry and large buildings |
| Zone control | Per unit | Yes, centralised | No | Depending on the fan coils installed |
| How the air arrives | Straight from the ceiling | Through the indoor units: cassette, ducted or wall-mounted | Through ducts | Chilled water to fan coils or air handling units |
Installation
As air conditioning installers in Barcelona, we know that much of the result lies in what you cannot see: where each unit goes, where the lines run and how the system is commissioned. An excellent unit that is badly installed cools less, uses more energy and wears out sooner.
Capacity is not chosen by square metres alone: orientation, insulation, windows and how each space is used all count. An undersized unit cannot keep up; an oversized one short-cycles and dehumidifies poorly.
The indoor unit has to spread the air without blowing straight onto the sofa or the bed. The outdoor unit needs ventilation, access for maintenance and a spot where its noise does not bother the neighbours.
The shorter and cleaner the run of the refrigerant lines, the better the system performs. The condensate drain needs a fall, or a pump where there is no natural gradient.
Before the circuit is opened, it is evacuated and checked for leaks. Handling refrigerant gases is regulated and must be done by staff holding the relevant certification.
From the first call until the system is up and running.
We look at the home or premises, the rooms you want to cool and where the indoor units and the outdoor unit can go.
We suggest the system, brand and capacity, with a no-obligation quote. If the outdoor unit goes on the façade or in a shared area, this is the time to raise it with the building's community of owners.
We fit the units, run the refrigerant lines, the drain and the power supply, and leave the job finished and clean.
We evacuate the circuit, run the tests, start the system and show you the remote, the operating modes and how to clean the filters.
Quote
There is no fixed price to install air conditioning in Barcelona: two similar flats can need very different installations. These are the factors that affect the quote the most:
Tell us what you need and we will prepare a no-obligation quote with the system and brand that suit your home or business.
| Factor | What changes |
|---|---|
| The system | Split, multi-split, ducted or a solution for a business. |
| The rooms and the capacity | How many indoor units are needed and how powerful they are. |
| The refrigerant line run | The distance between the indoor and outdoor units, and the route the lines take. |
| The building work | False ceiling and grilles for ducted systems, trunking, holes through walls or special brackets. |
| Where the outdoor unit goes | Façade, courtyard, terrace or roof, and whether lifting equipment is needed. |
Aftercare
Installing well is half the job; the other half is keeping the system performing over the years. At Clima Difusión we provide installation, repair and aftercare for climate control systems and maintenance contracts for all kinds of installations: climate control, electrical, water, gas and heating.
We specialise in commercial and industrial settings, where systems are more complex and a breakdown costs money, and we look after home systems with the same care.

Cleaning or replacing the filters, cleaning the coil and the condensate tray, checking the drain, the power consumption and the refrigerant circuit, and going over the brackets and connections of the outdoor unit.
Ideally this is done before the season starts, not on the first hot day.
In summer, keep the thermostat between 24 and 26 ºC: setting it lower pushes up consumption without adding comfort. With an inverter unit, holding a steady temperature usually uses less energy than switching it off and on all the time.
You will find more ideas in our tips for air conditioning in summer (in Spanish).
Climate control and fireplaces
At Clima Difusión we do both: climate control and fireplaces. If you are renovating, one supplier can handle the summer heat and the winter fire.
Heat pump air conditioning and a fireplace do not compete, they complement each other. The heat pump cools in summer and heats on mild days; the fireplace gives intense heat and the atmosphere of a real fire in the depths of winter. Planning them together avoids surprises: where each unit goes, where the flue runs and how heat spreads through the house.

Instant flame, no smell or ash, and a remote control or digital panel depending on the model: the most convenient partner for a flat with air conditioning.

The questions we hear most often before installing air conditioning in a flat, a house or a business.
It depends on how many rooms you want to cool and how much work the flat allows. For a single room, a wall-mounted split is the simplest. For several rooms, a multi-split with a single outdoor unit. If there is or will be a false ceiling and you want to cool the whole home with no visible units, ducted air conditioning with zoning is the most complete option.
It is a system with a machine hidden in the false ceiling that sends air through ducts to grilles in each room. It pays off when you want to cool several rooms without visible units and there is already a false ceiling or one will be built, for example in a full renovation. In a finished flat, the ceiling height and the duct route need checking first.
Airzone is a zoning system for ducted air conditioning: it adds motorised dampers to the grilles and a thermostat in each room. Each zone then has its own temperature and only the rooms in use are cooled or heated, which improves comfort and avoids spending energy on empty rooms.
It depends mainly on the system (split, multi-split or ducted), the number of rooms, the distance between the indoor and outdoor units and the building work required. Because every installation is different, the best approach is to ask for a no-obligation quote: we prepare it with the equipment and installation your home or business needs.
It includes cleaning or replacing the filters, cleaning the coil and the condensate tray, checking the drain and the refrigerant circuit, and inspecting the outdoor unit. It is advisable to service the system before each season of use. At Clima Difusión we offer maintenance contracts for homes and businesses.
Yes. As well as installing, at Clima Difusión we maintain and repair air conditioning systems in homes, shops and industry. Tell us what the unit is doing (not cooling, dripping, making noise or showing an error code) and, if you have them to hand, the brand and model.
We work with Daikin, Fujitsu, LG, Mitsubishi Electric, General and Eurofred, brands with split, multi-split and ducted ranges for homes and businesses. We recommend the brand and model based on the system, the capacity you need and your budget, and if you already have a brand in mind, we look at it with you.
A fan coil is a water-to-air unit: a fan blows air across a heat exchanger through which hot or cold water flows, and that is how it heats or cools the room. The inverter version adjusts the fan speed to what the room needs. It makes sense in homes that already have a gas boiler or a water circuit that can be used.
For a shop or a single-room office, a ceiling cassette is usually enough: it spreads the air evenly and takes up no wall space. Where there are several zones with different uses and hours, such as private offices, meeting rooms or several floors, a VRV system lets you control each zone from a central controller and fine-tune energy use.
Yes. A heat pump unit reverses its cycle in winter: it takes heat from the outside air and brings it into the home. It is an efficient form of heating for mild winters like Barcelona's, and many homes combine it with a fireplace or a stove for the coldest days.
Ask them to see the property before quoting, to size the capacity room by room rather than by square metres alone, and to itemise the equipment, brand, line route and building work in the quote. Also check that the company can handle maintenance and repairs afterwards. At Clima Difusión we install, maintain and repair.
It depends where it goes. If the outdoor unit is placed on the façade or on a shared element, such as the roof or a communal courtyard, you normally need to consult the community of owners, and some councils restrict units that are visible from the street. If it goes on your own terrace or private courtyard, it is usually simpler. We check this during the visit.
Yes, and it is a very practical combination: the heat pump cools in summer and heats on mild days, while the fireplace provides intense heat and the atmosphere of a real fire in winter. Because Clima Difusión does both climate control and fireplaces, we can plan the two installations together.
