Clima Difusión

Fire for the garden, the terrace and the porch

At Clima Difusión we offer a wide range of outdoor fireplaces, barbecues and appliances for enjoying fire in the open air: gas fireplaces for gardens and terraces, outdoor heaters for homes and businesses, and built-in barbecues, prefabricated or portable.

We carry out outdoor projects with wood, gas and bioethanol. Built-in barbecues combine brick, in all its variants, with sheet metal, and can be made up of several modules: a worktop, a gas or electric hob or a water module. Portable ones, running on gas, wood or charcoal, can go anywhere with no space limits: porches, terraces or gardens.

Just as in a living room, every project starts with the space: where the fire goes, how the gas gets there and how it fits in with the wood, stone or planters you already have. We have been designing and installing bespoke fireplaces for more than 30 years, and we bring the same craft outdoors.

Gas fireplaces

Outdoor gas fireplaces for gardens and terraces

An outdoor gas fireplace gives you a flame instantly, with no smell or ash, and fits into the garden or terrace like another piece of furniture. These are the three formats we have installed, each one a real project from our portfolio.

Garden gas fireplace by the pool

A low fire at ground level with chairs around it: the garden's meeting point as evening falls.

In this garden, the gas fireplace sits in front of the pool: the flame rises from a bed of white and black stones inside a stone circle.

Linear gas fireplace in a terrace bench

On terraces and balconies, the linear burner is set into a made-to-measure wooden bench between planters, and a metal lid covers it when it is not in use.

The flame rises over white stone and the bench still works as a seat. You can watch it being lit in the video on this page.

See-through gas fireplace between the living room and the terrace

One fireplace that can be seen from inside and outside: the fire keeps the covered terrace company without giving up the living room.

It is an open (atmospheric) gas fireplace that can be seen from both sides. The flue and the structure of the wall need careful study, because on one side it works as an indoor fireplace.

How it works

How does an outdoor gas fireplace work?

An outdoor gas fireplace works like an indoor one: natural gas or LPG reaches the burner through approved pipes and components, and the flame lights and adjusts instantly, with no smell or ash.

The difference is the setting. Because it burns in the open air, the burner sits in a well-ventilated spot, away from flammable materials and sheltered from wind and rain. On the terrace in the video, a metal lid covers the burner when it is not in use.

If the house has natural gas, the fireplace can be connected to the mains; if not, it can run on LPG. Either way, the connection is made by our certified installer, who checks for leaks before it is lit for the first time.

Finishes

Stone, wood and fire décor for outdoor fireplaces

An outdoor fireplace is designed like another piece of garden furniture. We choose the cladding with you (stone, iron or wood) and the fire décor (ceramic logs, stones or glass) so it fits in with the terrace, the pool or the planters.

A bed of stone for the flame

Both outdoor fireplaces in our portfolio have the flame over stone: white in the terrace bench, white and black in the garden by the pool.

Made-to-measure wooden benches

The wood surrounds the burner and doubles as seating; the fire sits in a metal box with a lid, so the bench is usable all year round.

Ceramic logs

They give the look of a traditional wood fire with the convenience of gas. In the video they are placed on white stone in an indoor fireplace: the set-up is the same outdoors.

Ceramic logs on white stone, from set-up to lighting. Video of an indoor gas fireplace from our projects: the ceramic logs are placed on the white stone of a corner fireplace and the flame is lit.

Outdoor heaters

Outdoor heaters for terraces: standing, tabletop or wall-mounted

Outdoor heaters stretch the terrace season: instant warmth for dining outside in autumn or winter. We sell outdoor heaters for homes and businesses.

Standing outdoor heater

The most common choice on large terraces: it spreads the heat around and stands next to the table or the sofa area.

Tabletop heater

Compact, for small terraces or for warming one particular spot, such as the outdoor dining table.

Wall-mounted heater

Fixed to the wall, it gives heat without taking up floor space. Ideal for patios and porches where every metre counts.

Portable heater

It moves with the occasion, from the table to the lounge area, with no fixed installation at all.

Outdoor heaters for hospitality

On the terraces of bars, restaurants and hotels, the warmth has to reach every table. We advise you on the type and placement of the heaters according to the area, whether the terrace is covered and where the wind comes from.

How to choose an outdoor heater

Look at the size of the terrace, whether it is covered or open, how much wind it gets and whether you want it fixed or mobile. With those four details we recommend the right format. If you only want a decorative flame with no installation, take a look at our bioethanol fireplaces too.

Comparison

Fire pit, heater or outdoor fireplace? Which to choose

All five options give fire or warmth in the open air, but they are not for the same thing. This table sums up how they differ, so you can choose for your space and the way you will use it.

If you are torn between a fire pit and an outdoor fireplace, the difference is the installation: a fire pit moves around and usually burns wood; a gas fireplace is fixed, lights instantly and leaves no ash.

Barbecues

Built-in barbecues and outdoor kitchens

Built-in barbecues are made up of two main components: brick, in all its variants, and sheet metal. They can be made up of several modules with a worktop, a gas or electric hob or a water module, until they become a small outdoor kitchen.

If you would rather do less building work, prefabricated masonry barbecues are set in place without building from scratch, and portable barbecues running on gas, wood or charcoal can be used anywhere outdoors with no space limits: porches, terraces or gardens.

Barbecue with chimney: where the smoke goes

In a built-in barbecue with a chimney, the hood and the draught collect the smoke from the embers and take it out above the seating area. That barbecue chimney has to be planned from the start: the height of the outlet, its position relative to the prevailing wind and the distance to the house and the neighbours.

Built-in gas barbecue

With a gas burner built into the structure you get quick lighting and even cooking, and the barbecue is made to fit the garden. The burner is connected by our certified installer, just as with a fireplace.

Outdoor kitchens: Vlaze and OFYR

For those who cook outside often, modular outdoor kitchens add a grill, a pizza oven or a sink. On our blog we explain what the Vlaze outdoor kitchen is like: enamelled steel, designed to live outdoors. You will also find the OFYR catalogue further down.

Bioethanol

Bioethanol fireplaces in the open air

Bioethanol is the simplest option to install: it needs no flue and no gas connection, and it works both indoors and outdoors. It is a renewable fuel, and lighting can be manual, automatic or remote, depending on the model.

Its heat output is low, so outdoors its role is mainly decorative: it puts a flame on a table, a wall or a corner of the terrace. You will find all the formats and projects on our bioethanol fireplaces page.

Find a corner out of the wind

A bioethanol flame is sensitive to draughts. Put it somewhere sheltered and follow the manufacturer's instructions for each model.

Atmosphere, not heating

It will not warm a whole terrace. If you want warmth for dining outside, pair it with an outdoor heater.

Better with ceramic logs

It is the décor that suits it best: bioethanol works better with ceramic logs than with stone.

Refill with the burner cold

Always refill the burner with the flame out and the burner cold, and store the bioethanol away from the fire.

Installation

What you need to install an outdoor fireplace

An outdoor gas fireplace is, above all, a gas installation. Before drawing anything we check the supply, the location and, if it is a flat's terrace, what the building's rules allow.

Why is an authorised installer essential?

Natural gas or LPG supply

The fireplace is connected to the house's natural gas mains or to LPG, using approved pipes and components. Our certified installer does it, signs off every installation and takes responsibility for it.

Location, ventilation and clearances

Even in the open air, the fire goes in a well-ventilated spot away from flammable materials such as awnings, fabrics or dry plants. On porches and covered terraces we look at the ceiling and how the air moves before deciding where it goes.

Protection from rain and wind

The burner and controls must be protected. A lid, like the one on the wooden bench in the video, covers it when it is not in use, and a good orientation to the wind stops the flame from flattening or going out.

Flat terraces and shared buildings

On a flat's terrace, the first step is to check the building's rules (usually set by the owners' association) and see what gas supply there is. With that information we tell you which option is feasible: a gas fireplace, an outdoor heater or bioethanol.

Safety and tightness tests

Before handing over the fireplace we check there are no gas leaks and that everything works properly. We hold the official approval for natural gas work.

How we work: from design to first lighting

We take care of the whole process, in four stages.

  1. Initial design

We define the option, format and materials with you, and work out how the gas gets there and where the fire goes.

  2. Preparation

We handle the making of the bespoke parts, logistics, permits and the timing of the work.

  3. Installation

Our certified installer fits the fireplace, connects it to the gas supply and carries out the safety and tightness tests.

  4. Final finishes

We finish the bench, wall or cladding and put the fire décor in place. All you have to do is light it.

After-sales

Looking after an outdoor fireplace

An outdoor gas fireplace needs little upkeep: there is no ash to clear and no wood to store. Even so, like any gas appliance, it should be serviced by qualified staff, who check the electrical and electronic parts, the combustion and the tightness.

Because it lives outside, it is also worth checking the connections and hoses from time to time, clearing leaves and dust from the stone and the burner, and covering it during the months you will not use it.

With barbecues, cleaning the grill and the hood at the end of the season stops grease and soot from building up. You will find more tips in our gas fireplace maintenance guide.

Quote

How much does an outdoor fireplace cost?

There is no single price: every outdoor fireplace or built-in barbecue is designed for a particular space. These are the factors that affect the quote the most:

  • The option: gas fireplace, outdoor heater, barbecue or bioethanol.
  • The supply: connecting to the house's natural gas mains or working with LPG, and the length of pipe to the fire.
  • The building work: from setting a burner into a bench to building a wall, a brick barbecue or an outdoor kitchen.
  • The materials: stone, wood, iron or sheet metal, and the fire décor.
  • The modules: worktop, hob, water module or a lid for the burner.

We will prepare a no-obligation quote based on your space and what you are looking for.
